Neighborhood House-fire
Well that didn't take long. That is, emergency-readiness packets were delivered to all our neighborhood homes over this past weekend. (When you read the materials, did you think you'd never need that sort of thing?) Then today (Oct.31), one of our homes incurred a small fire... with sizable consequences. One estimate suggested appx $10,000 damage.
(Click to watch video by Carmel Fire Dept)
Apparently, a wall-heater overheated. In this case, thankfully residents were present and detected the issue in its early stages. Carmel Fire Dept responded as well as a balanced response from Westfield Fire. An interior wall and a roof-area had to be exposed to extinguish the fire.
One thoughtful (and prepared) neighbor distributed cold-water to responders.

Carmel Police closed neighborhood streets off from mall traffic during the incident.
Neighborhood residents gathered to watch the response, and after the fire was extinguished, the fire crew accommodated photos with young would-be responders. *smile*
Ok... back to the ClayTerrace emergency-readiness packets. Let's see, maybe I should look through the packet more thoroughly? I may even post the green reminder-sheet on my fridge as they suggested. You know. Just in case.

CERT delivers readiness packets to Clay Terrace neighbors
Volunteers from our Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) are delivering 'readiness packets' to each of our Clay Terrace neighborhood homes during October. Check your newspaper-boxes.
The packets of information will help all of our families prepare for emergencies. It includes information from Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency, Red Cross, FEMA and even a localized flyer of info specific to Clay Terrace neighbors.
The bright-green flyer customized for Clay Terrace neighbors is designed as a refrigerator reminder to be readily at-hand when any emergency arises. It is our first-edition, so if you have additional localized insights for us, please share with us via the contact shown below!
(Thanks, all of you CERT volunteers, for taking your time to help us become more & more ready to deal with emergencies -- personal or community emergencies!)
(Learn more about the Hamilton County CERT unit, and how you too could be involved. Your local neighborhood contact is Neil Cox, Walter Street. Text or call 317-490-1255)

Paradise Bible Study... Every Fri7am
The Fri7am coffee-time group is open to everyone. We'd love to have you join us anytime. You just never know who'll show up. *smile*
Right now, we're discussing: "The Story"...
'The Story' is a very readable, condensed version of the Bible. We're discussing a chapter each week... which will take us 6 months to read through it. Very interesting. And we can ask our questions and hope to get a slightly different perspective from each other.
While Pastor Jim Wright is on-hand to help answer questions, we all attend different churches in the ClayTerrace area. So you'll be right at home.
Come get a fresh perspective. And bring a fresh perspective; you're among friends.

Clay Terrace Baptist... Sunday, May 13th
A church for our community, Clay Terrace Baptist, is officially now underway, starting Sunday May 13, 2012 at 10:30am at the Comfort Suites.

Ron & Teresa Steege
Pastor Ron has led a weekly 'Paradise Bible-study' every Friday morning (7am) Clay Terrace. [Everyone is welcome -- come check it out!] For those of us who know him well, he's become a great friend. We hope you'll get to know him soon. But more than that, his wife Teresa is active at Janus Developmental Services, providing those with disabilities an opportunity to participate & contribute within the community. Their daughter Zoe (4 mos) is a delightful addition to our Paradise group!
Ron says that the Sunday services will include singing some of the old familiar hymns, and a time of fellowship around God's Word.
The Comfort Suites are located near Clay Terrace at 15131 Thatcher Lane (by McDonalds).
For more information you can call Ron (317-446-8504) or email ronaldsteege@gmail.com. Or better yet, come have coffee and a muffin with us Friday morning. ;)

Community Readiness Webinar... May 17th

The Community Preparedness Webinar Series invites you to join us for a webinar highlighting exercises that had a focus on community preparedness and participation. The webinar will feature presentations from emergency management practitioners who have been involved in the design and execution of exercises.
Emergencies often involve a “whole community” effort with help from volunteer organizations, schools, businesses, faith-based institutions, and a range of other organizations; therefore, it is important that emergency management agencies partner with community-based organizations and integrate them into their jurisdiction's emergency plans and exercises.
We hope the ideas, strategies and practices shared during this webinar will help other communities design and conduct exercises that enhance community preparedness and participation.
Details about the 2pm webinar on May 17th.
[For anyone in the immediate Clay Terrace neighborhood who would like to connect as we seek to increase our community 'readiness', contact neil@clayterrace.org .]
